![]() ![]() Important: For best results, don’t change the location of the Music folder or the folders inside it. Once you verify that everything is working properly, you can delete the old iTunes folder. Select version: Table of Contents Change where your music files are stored on Mac By default, your music is stored here: Home /Music/ You can change where your music files are stored. That will force iTunes to create a new library file next time it starts. In Windows, go to the Music folder under your user profile, and rename the iTunes folder to something else. Side note: If you try to update iTunes Match and you get an error code 4010, it seems to be related to a conflict or corruption of the iTunes library file. They magically appear in the default iTunes music folder-available in iTunes, and synced with iCloud and iTunes Match-and, as they are added to iTunes the files and folders disappear from the “Automatically Add to iTunes” folder. The files and folders you copy there are automatically sucked into iTunes like a vacuum. When you do so, the folder works exactly as advertised. Instead of copying music files directly to the iTunes default music folder, copy them to the “Automatically Add to iTunes” folder-which should be one of the folders available in the default iTunes music folder (you may also have a shortcut to this magic folder on your Windows desktop). Apparently, when you acquire music from means other than directly from iTunes, and you want to include it in your iTunes library, this is where you need to cut and paste the files and folders to. You may store it in a different location, such as on an external disk or network volume. After a little research, I discovered a folder called “Automatically Add to iTunes”.
